CJ-CGV Wants to Keep Growing Its Chains

With an ambitious goal of operating 10,000 screens worldwide by 2020, CJ-CGV has pushed an aggressive international expansion plan which has taken it into China, Vietnam, Indonesia, Myanmar, Turkey, and the U.S. In terms of the number of the screens worldwide, the exhibitor has outstripped Odeon, the largest cinema operator in Europe, by acquiring Mars Entertainment in April. CJ-CGV is currently the world’s fifth-largest cinema operator.

EXO and BTS to headline 2016 Mnet Asian Music Awards

Tyler Perry to Produce English-Language Remake of Korean Film 'Miss Granny' with CJ E&M

The production, targeted at the African-American community, will be a co-venture between CJ and Tyler Perry Studio’s 34th Street Films. CJ has also pacted with actor-director Eugenio Derbez’s 3 Pas Studios to produce a Spanish-language version. Both films are set for release in 2018 and aimed primarily at the North American market.

Cinépolis Teams with CJ 4DPlex to Rollout Additional 4DX Screens

Confirming 4D immersive cinema as part of the global expansion plan of one of the world’s biggest exhibition groups, Mexico’s Cinépolis has pacted with CJ 4Dplex to install its 4DX system at least 12 additional sites in the U.S., India, Spain, and across Latin America. The new U.S. Screens opening are at Carlsbad, north of San Diego, and Los Angeles County’s Pico Rivera.

Bibigo taps RKF to direct American Roll Out

RKF has been retained as the exclusive retail leasing representative by Bibigo as it embarks on a plan to establish a national presence throughout the US, starting in Southern California over the next year. The chain currently has four locations in Westwood Village, Century City, Glendale and Culver City, and two recently announced restaurants in Arcadia and Torrance. Bibigo plans to open as many as 12 locations in Southern California by 2017.
