'Pirates of the Caribbean’ to sail into ScreenX theaters

“Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” will be the first Hollywood feature to be released in the U.S. for the new panorama-like ScreenX format. ScreenX is a multi-projector, 270-degree cinema system from CJ 4DPlex (the company behind the 4DX 4D cinema system). The new installment of Pirates will be available in two Los Angeles-area theaters at the CGV Cinemas in Koreatown and the chain’s new U.S. flagship in Buena Park.

Si Woo Kim Claims the Players Championship with bogey-free final round

With a closing three-under-par 69 at T.P.C. Sawgrass on May 14, Si Woo Kim became the youngest winner of the tournament, which featured 48 of the world’s top 50 players. Kim, a CJ sponsored golfer who won his first PGA Tour event last August in Greensboro, N.C., joined Sergio García of Spain as the only golfers born outside the United States in the post-World War II era to have recorded two tour victories before their 22nd birthdays.

Film Review: 'The King's Case Note'

An uneven comedy-adventure about a fictional 15th century Korean king and his faithful assistant who form a Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson-type detective team, “The King’s Case Note” is at least a refreshing change from traditional Korean costume spectacles in which all things royal are treated with utmost respect and solemnity. This second feature by director Moon Hyun-sung (“As One,” 2014) has notched an impressive 1.3 million admissions in Korea since opening April 26. A more muted reception appears likely in North America as the film widens May 5 from its April 28 limited release.

Highlight and SF9 join KCON 2017 NY Lineup

Boy band fans, get excited. KCON has just announced that Highlight and SF9 will join the New York date of the massive Korean-culture festival this summer. Just like last year, KCON NY will boast two days of panels, workshops, food trucks, artist meet-and-greets and convention fun along with two days of concerts. In addition to everything a K-pop fan could want, KCON has promised expanded offerings in the K-beauty, K-food, and e-sports scenes.

Fast-Casual Korean-Style Rice Bowls Roll Into UTC

Making its debut Friday, April 7 in Westfield UTC’s food court is Bibigo Fresh Korean Kitchen, the global brand of fast-casual eateries, which also has its own line of packaged foods. With several locations in the Los Angeles area, and an ambitious growth plan to launch 130 locations nationwide by 2020, the 700-square-foot is the company’s first in the San Diego market.

CNBLUE and TWICE Announced as First Acts Heading to KCON NY

Trending K-pop group TWICE and pop-rock band CNBLUE are the first acts revealed to be heading to KCON NY this June. On Thursday, KCON USA revealed that the two K-pop idol groups will be performing during the headlining concerts at the third annual KCON NY. The Korean culture convention and music festival will be held June 23-24 at Newark, New Jersey’s Prudential Center.
